Flying High with Graeme Bennett

28 May 2013

Graeme Bennet stands in front of a plane on the sunway. The co-host of our regular weekly program “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” took to the sky on Sunday in “Hawdon”, the beautifully restored former TAA DC-3.

Built in 1942…the plane… not Graeme (he was built 10 years earlier) served with the US Air force in the war and ended up taking the first TAA flight in September 1946 from Laverton to Sydney.

Graeme had the pleasure of flying from Tullamarine to Warrnambool in this grand old lady (called “Shanghai- Lil” when she flew with the USAF) last Sunday along with members of the Coles family – Sir Arthur Coles was the first Chairman of TAA.

“Planes, Trains and Automobiles” is heard at 8.30pm Wednesday nights.
