A tribute to Graham Sinclair

07 November 2019

There were laughs aplenty at Graham Sinclair’s retirement party last week as fond and funny memories were shared when we acknowledged and thanked Graham for his 26 years of dedicated service to the RPH Network.

Graham Sinclair was well-known for his partnership with John O’Connell on The DIY Show, regarded as “champagne broadcasting” on InfoRadio 990AM. Graham and John prepped and read about household improvements and repairs and, with both their personalities bouncing off each other, it made for great radio.

Graham also used to read excerpts from the Uniting Church magazine Revive, broadcast on Sundays, while the late, great Alan de Mello would read the Catholic news in The Record. Alan was the audio technology expert at InfoRadio, a former chief sound engineer with various commercial broadcasters around town, latterly with Channel 7.

John O’Connell was able to join us at the retirement party, and it was great to hear tales from the many years he shared behind the mic with Graham throughout their on-air partnership on The DIY Show that lasted 10 years.

Mike Lee also shared his early morning memories reading with Graham on Perth Today, and Arnold Baldwin did great justice to Graham with a wonderful rendition of Cate Jenning’s Ode to Graham.

Graham and his wife Deni also shared some of their fondest memories of the many years at RPH and how much value and satisfaction Graham got personally being able to service the low vision and blind community through his role at VA Radio.

Graham, on behalf of all of us at Vision Australia we thank you for the many years you have dedicated to our listeners and the RPH Network here in Perth. We salute and applaud you.
