Great Western Revival

En route to Ararat, the Pyrenees and the Grampians you could wiz through the hamlet of Great Western on the...Highway in a blink. Big Mistake! Great Western, now a region in its own right, is home to both Seppelt Great Western www.seppelt.com.au and Bests www.bestswines.com who both make ripper reds and are famous for, among other things, classic Sparkling Reds formerly known as Sparkling Burgundies! I will be talking to relevant winemakers on a future Grapevine.

Liquid Gold from Rutherglen

I had the privilege of tasting a 114 year old liqueur fortified at a recent lunch at Morris Wines in Rutherglen to celebrate 20 years of winemaking by David Morris. David took over the reigns from his famous father Mick Morris in 1993. Not only did I get to taste some excellent, award-winning fortifieds but also an interesting vertical tasting flight of Morris Durif dating back to 1990 through to 2013.
