Introducing Vision Australia Radio’s new regional coordinator: Helen Gwilliam

01 October 2021

Vision Australia Radio welcome Helen Gwilliam to our radio reading network. Helen, our new Regional Radio Coordinator is responsible for supporting the 200 plus radio volunteers based around our seven Victorian regional stations.

"Our regional volunteers broadcast the local papers and local community based special interest programs," says Helen. "My role is to assist them to make their programs, develop their skills and generally help them to keep doing what they’re doing. Everyone is learning to work in a new way because of COVID but radio people are known to be very adaptable."

Having recently relocated to regional Victoria Helen also brings her considerable community radio experience to the role, including 11 years with Melbourne community radio station 3CR. During this time, she was part of the breakfast radio team and also was one of the drivers of the yearly broadcast of International Day of People with Disabilities, on December 3rd.

"We called it D Day, and the entire programming for the day was led and broadcast by people with disability. The day is important because it’s an opportunity for us to examine what’s been going on in the community for the past year. Aside from this, the day is also a lot of fun."

Vision Australia Radio regional stations operate in Geelong, Bendigo, Albury and Shepparton. We also broadcast content in Warragul, Warrnambool and Mildura.
