More promotion for artists with disability thanks to Vision Australia Radio partnership

21 August 2020

Vision Australia Radio is proud to announce a new media partnership with Arts Access Australia to better promote the incredible contribution of artists who are blind or have low vision across Australia.

The partnership will provide greater promotional opportunities for artists represented by Arts Access Australia and connect them with hundreds of thousands of listeners nationwide via the Vision Australia Radio network.

Established in 1992, Arts Access Australia is the national peak body for arts and disability in Australia and works to increase opportunities and access to the arts for people with disability as artists, arts-workers, participants and audiences.

“The arts sector has been one of the hardest hit during the COVID-19 pandemic. With limited financial relief and widespread cancellation of live events there has been less opportunity for performers to promote themselves,” Jason Gipps, Vision Australia Radio community partnerships and engagement coordinator.

“Vision Australia Radio is in a unique position where we have a platform and a strong desire to promote artists living with disability and their work in the space,” he said.

Already, Vision Australia Radio has hosted a number of interviews with artists and others within AAA as a result of the partnership. Recently, Arts Access Australia CEO Matthew Hall joined Vision Australia Radio to discuss “Meeting Place”, which is the flagship event on the Arts Access Australia calendar each year.

“The national Meeting Place forum is an important event for bringing together artists, arts workers, government and other key stakeholders together for discussions on the critical accessibility and equity issues affecting the sector,” said Matthew. “It also provides a platform for showcasing the incredible contribution to the arts made by d/Deaf and disabled artists.”

“I am very excited about this important partnership with Vision Australia Radio, which strengthens the engagement with our blind and low vision community. It comes at a pivotal moment in the arts industry, where we must band together and support one another to demonstrate the immeasurable value in arts from all perspectives.”

“Vision Australia Radio looks forward to further promoting the work of Arts Access Australia over the coming months,” Jason said. “Our audience can expect a great range of conversations, available on Vision Australia Radio and via podcast, which will provide a source of entertainment and inspiration in these challenging times.”
