About us

The Vision Australia Radio service in Melbourne (also known as 3RPH) has been operating since 1982 to provide access to information and inclusion for the local blind, low vision and print disabled communities. You can listen to Vision Australia Radio in Melbourne on 1179AM and on DAB+ digital radio via the VA Radio and IRIS channels.

The Vision Australia Radio Melbourne service is delivered by an enthusiastic and passionate team of 300 volunteers, providing over 80 hours of radio reading and specialist programs each week. These are shared across the Vision Australia Radio Network, and to other RPH and community broadcasters nationally.

McNair listener survey data estimated in 2019 that 129,000 people aged 15+, or 3% of all Melbourne people aged 15+, listen to Vision Australia Radio at some time in a week and that 448,000 people aged 15+, or 11% of all Melbourne people aged 15+, listen to Vision Australia Radio at some time in a month.

A variety of Melbourne programs, including Talking Vision, Talking Tech, Hear This and the Seeing Eye Dogs Show are also available as podcasts to stream online via Podbean or download via the podcast page.
