Cloudstreet is back! It’s been twenty years since the old Playbox Theatre gave us one of the most extraordinary theatrical events of the 1990s. Playbox is now Malthouse and they’ve brought back Nick Enright and Justin Monju’s adaptation of Tim Winton’s classic novel.
Cloudstreet is a real event. It’s five hours at the theatre (but that does include a meal break) and there’s a special audio-described performance at a discounted price. To find out how you get hold of that, you’ll need to listen to our chat with director Matthew Lutton and producer Toby Sullivan.
Then we’re out of town for a bit, to visit SAM – the Shepparton Art Museum. It’s just a two hour drive up the Goulburn Valley Highway to see Deep Revolt, a new exhibition combining video work, animation, soundscapes and the re-contextualisation of existing artworks (plus a pretty interesting clock made out of a gourd).
The collection of works gives us a look back on a number of works by English born, Melbourne based artist Arlo Mountford who, along with SAM curator Lara Merrington, takes us on a walk and talk through the exhibition.
A little closer to home, the Ian Potter Museum of Art is presenting Some Significant Equations, a special work by Turner Prize nominated artist Liam Gillick commissioned for the Art + Climate = Change Festival.
To see this work though, you don’t actually need to go into the gallery, just take a trip up Swanston Street and you can’t miss it. We’ll find out more about this public art work and all the other things happening at the Potter Museum when director Kelly Gellanty drops into the studio for a chat.
After that, it’s our fortnightly movie wrap up with Marc Gracie, as we share our thoughts on Top End Wedding, The Avengers: Endgame and The Realm.
That’s all on this week’s edition of Behind the Scenes with Chris Thompson, right here on Vision Australia Radio.
