Chris Thompson kicks off this week with a visit from Tarrawarra Museum of Art’s Anthony Fitzpatrick. He’s curated The Clearing, a fascinating exhibition by Katie West who uses natural dyeing, textiles, plants, meditation and stories to create a multi-sensory installation that transforms the gallery into a reading and listening space where the voices of indigenous people dominate. Anthony and Katie are both in the studio this week to talk about this work and its inclusion as one of more than thirty exhibitions in this year’s Art + Climate = Change Festival.
Then Chris is out and about for a bit…first at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival where he catches a gig created and performed by legally blind comedian Tom Skelton who somehow turns his loss of sight into a very funny show. Chris catches Tom as he literally walks off stage for a quick chat about his work.
Then Chris scoots over to the North Melbourne Arts House to catch up with the astounding works of sound and light that make up Spectral…a mind-blowing combination of installations, performance and technology that’s taking over the old building for a week. After a dazzling eleven minutes experiencing Quadra by Robin Fox, he sits down with Arts House Artistic Director, Emily Sexton, to find out what other sound and light delights she’s got in store for us.
And finally, we welcome Marc Gracie and Gully Thompson back to the show for a bit of movie chat…this week it’s Hotel Mumbai, Hal, Dumbo and Captain Marvel. That’s all on this week’s edition of Behind the Scenes, with Chris Thompson, right here on Vision Australia Radio.
