1969 must’ve been a bit special because there’s a lot of 50th anniversaries in 2019, Woodstock, the moon landing and even the opening of a certain bookstore in Lygon Street, Carlton. That’s right, Readings is 50! We’ll catch up with managing director Mark Rubbo to talk about its significance in our culture and their ongoing participation at Clunes Booktown Festival.
Meanwhile, more than 60 years ago, the theatrical ripples that would lead to the establishment of the new wave of theatre was getting started at Sydney University. The Ripples Before the New Wave is a new book about this time and co-author Robyn Dalton will tell us all about what it was like through her lived experience.
Then it’s back to the present day for a glimpse of this year’s Yirramboi Festival, Melbourne’s biennial First People’s festival celebrating more than two thousand years of continuous cultural practice. This year, the festival is supporting the development of four writers and critics with its Blak Critics programme. We’ll meet Monique Grbec and Davey Thompson and find out what shows they’re looking forward to reviewing.
Then it’s off to the movies with Marc Gracie to review Shazam!, mid90s and Thunder Road.
So stick around for this Monday night’s edition of Behind the Scenes, with Chris Thompson, right here on Vision Australia Radio.
