Learn about the trek

Kia ora! Vision Australia is trekking off to beautiful New Zealand and leading the charge is the organisation’s most well-known Kiwi, CEO Ron Hooten.

Funds raised on the 50km trek will support Vision Australia in continuing to make a difference for people who are blind or have low vision.

Ron is excited to introduce the stunning landscape surrounding the Queen Charlotte track to trekkers.

“We call it Godzone. It’s at the top of South-Island. The trek is a little hilly but the stunning scenery is worth every step,” Ron said.

Ron encourages people to start getting fit ready by regular off road-walks of up to 15 kms.

“The trail will be uneven and very different to walking on Walking and off road as the surfaces are very different 10 to 15 kms and be uneven

“Hills are your friends. The more hills you can do the more amazing you’ll be on the track.”

Ron also promises an end of trek treat with a walking tour of his favourite city, Wellington.
