Studio 1's Matthew Layton chats with Australian of the Year Dr James Muecke

09 June 2020

Matthew Layton presents Studio 1 – Vision Australia Radio’s weekly look at life in Australia from a blind and low vision perspective.

This week on Studio 1, Matthew welcomed a very special guest onto the show - 2020 Australian of the Year Dr James Muecke.

As an Adelaide-based ophthalmic surgeon and humanitarian, Dr Muecke has spent his career working to prevent and treat blindness in some of the world's poorest countries.

The charity Dr Muecke co-founded a little over a decade ago, Sight for All, now helps restore or preserve the sight of up to a million people per year. Visit the Sight for All website to learn about valuable work they do.

Right now, we are living in unprecedented times and the Studio 1 team wanted to find out how the COVID-19 crisis is affecting eyesight charities. Matthew talks to Dr Muecke about what impact COVID-19 is having on his organisation, as well as those a little closer to home, from both an operational and financial point of view.

You can get in touch with the show by phone or text on 0450 078 834, or email on [email protected].

For the month of June, we’re celebrating Vision Australia Radio and asking our listeners, friends and family to support us during the Vision Australia Radiothon. For details of how to donate, visit the Vision Australia Radiothon page.
