The Mildura Mallee Wanderers Trefoil Guild ticked off another first during a recent visit to the local Vision Australia Radio (VAR) station.
The group of women, who range in age from 60 to almost 80, learned all about the our community radio station and the wider network and even stepped up to the microphone to record a piece about the guild's history.
Mildura Mallee Wanderers member Janine O'Kane, who is also a volunteer at Vision Australia, said the group had completed all sorts of challenges since they formed two years ago. "We are a group of retired Girl Guide leaders who are doing things that we used to teach the girls," Ms O'Kane said.
"We've reached a time in our lives where it's all about us, and we get to learn new skills and achieve our own goals. We've travelled overseas, interstate and around the region, done crafts and outdoor activities, and found ways to give back to the community."
Group president Raywin Jamieson said they were currently completing the 2019 Saluting Their Service badge program. "The visit to VAR Mildura was one of four different activities we will do this year to earn the badge," she said.
"It's all about researching and learning about communication during times of war, and we will also attend an Anzac Day service." The Mildura Mallee Wanderers are one of three Trefoil Guild groups in Sunraysia.
Women over the age of 18 who have been involved in guiding or scouting, or are prepared to make the Girl Guide promise, can join.
