The Vision Australia Radio team is deeply saddened by the passing of Chris Thompson, long-time host of our arts and culture program, ‘Behind the Scenes’.

Chris was a passionate advocate for accessible arts and culture, driven by a genuine belief that everyone should be able to experience and enjoy creativity in all its forms. Through ‘Behind the Scenes’, Chris championed audio described events, promoted inclusive performances, and regularly hosted audio described gallery tours on his show. Many listeners will also remember his extended interviews, which remain available via our ‘Interview Highlights’ podcast feed.
Chris was generous and selfless in his approach. He curated content not for personal recognition, but because he believed it would resonate with and enrich our audience. He was a tireless supporter of arts organisations of all shapes and sizes, always quick to amplify events and venues across our broadcast network. From Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, through regional Victoria, and right up to Darwin, Chris ensured accessible arts had a voice, with the support of his co-producer, Mark Ridoutt.
While we are heartbroken that we will no longer see Chris around our studios or hear his thoughtful interviews live on air, we take comfort in knowing his legacy lives on. His ‘Behind the Scenes’ podcast will remain available via the OMNY link below and on all major podcast platforms.
True to form, Chris carefully prepared a pre-recorded summer series of ‘Behind the Scenes’ prior to his passing. These episodes will continue to broadcast at 9pm local time each Monday evening. An update on the future of the program will be shared in the coming weeks.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Chris’s family, friends, and the many artists, organisations and listeners whose lives he touched.
Rest in peace, Chris. Thank you for everything you gave to our community radio network.
