Our resident sports expert, Matt Lee, has cast his eye over the AFL for 2019 and believes he’s predicted the unpredictable. Find out his hot tips for this year’s AFL season.
In good news for WA fans, Matt expects the West Coast Eagles to back up their 2018 premiership by finishing on top of the ladder again before going on to take out their second straight premiership flag. It’d see the Eagles go back to back for the first time in their 32 year history.
It could be a case of a grand final repeat, in Matt’s eyes, as he’s predicting Collingwood to finish in second place, while he expects Adelaide and Richmond to continue their push to be playing on Grand Final day, finishing third and fourth respectively.
Matt believes the double chance will be out of reach for Melbourne, Essendon, Geelong and the GWS Giants, who round out his top eight.
At the other end of the ladder, Matt predicts it will be another year of heartbreak and disappointment for the Gold Coast Suns, who will finish on the bottom and “win” the inauspicious wooden spoon.
For the Brownlow Medal, he thinks we should all look out for Rory Sloane from the Adelaide Crows, who Matt predicts will have a year of individual brilliance.
The addition of Tom Lynch to the Tigers’ forward line could be just what Jack Riewoldt has been dreaming of, with Matt predicting Jack will storm through to claim the Coleman Medal as the competition’s leading goal-kicker.
What do you think about Matt’s tips for the 2019 AFL premiership season? Is he on the money or is he dreaming?
