With just days until Australians head to the polls, Vision Australia Radio and Junction Journalism are joining forces to deliver a special national election night broadcast on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
More than 70 journalism students from universities across the country will report on the unfolding election story, providing real-time updates, interviews and analysis, broadcast live on Vision Australia Radio and online. From the Swinburne University host studio, a team of student presenters, data analysts and political academics will keep listeners informed on what is predicted to be a very close contest.
This collaboration offers students a valuable opportunity to gain real-world broadcasting experience as part of The Junction, a platform showcasing outstanding student journalism from Australian universities.
Vision Australia’s Manager of Radio and Audio Services, Conrad Browne, said:
"Vision Australia Radio is a trusted source of information for people with a print disability, and we’re thrilled to partner with The Junction team to bring this important coverage to our audience in real time. It’s equally rewarding to support the next generation of journalists in developing their skills covering live events like an election."
Ahead of the broadcast, students have been preparing candidate and electorate profiles, now available at junctionjournalism.com.
Swinburne Communications and Radio Lecturer, Peter Marcato, Co-Executive Producer of the broadcast, shared:
"We have students from universities across Australia working together to deliver a national perspective on the election. It’s an incredible learning experience that will have lasting impacts on their future careers."
Professor Andrew Dodd, Editor-in-Chief of The Junction, added:
"The election broadcast will convey all the drama and excitement of the national vote, offering unique perspectives from dozens of electorates. It's a wonderful example of universities collaborating for the common good and delivering authentic, real-world training."
