Vision Australia Carols by Candlelight will this year be simulcast complete with audio description, on the Vision Australia Radio network in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, regional Victoria, Albury and Darwin. Now in its 83rd year, Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight raises vital funds each year to support children who are blind or have low vision and their families across Australia. Carols by Candlelight 2020 will be performed at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on December 24. Channel 9 will broadcast the whole show live from 8pm AEDST on Christmas Eve, as well as a replay on Christmas Day. 3AW will broadcast live from 6pm until midnight on Christmas Eve.
Vision Australia Radio will celebrate the event with ‘Countdown to Carols’ preview shows on Saturday 12 December at 7:30pm AEDST (9:00pm Adelaide) and the same times on Saturday 19 December and from 7pm Christmas Eve with a one hour pre-program featuring interviews, music and more followed at 8pm with the entire event audio described live on your local Vision Australia Radio AM/FM service, on VAR Digital (DAB+) and online at www.varadio.org
Audio description paints an image of transitions, movements, gestures, neatly woven between on-stage dialogue, allowing people who are blind or have low vision to enjoy this great event. This year Belong is our major sponsor of the Vision Australia Radio simulcast who are proudly behind audio description for Aussies with a print disability. Vision Australia Radio presenter Peter Greco spoke to Kelly Schulz, of Belong in this podcast to learn why they recently got behind the TV4ALL campaign.
