Be Connected with Vision Australia

23 January 2020

Would you like to learn skills to make the most technology and get online in a safe, accessible and fully supported way?

Join Vision Australia’s exciting new learning program for seniors and open up your world to the endless possibilities the internet has to offer… read books, listen to music, watch movies, be entertained, pay bills, shop and bank, connect with family & friends and so much more!

‘Be Connected’ is an Australian Government initiative committed to increasing the confidence, skills and online safety of older Australians. It supports people to use the internet and everyday technology to thrive in our digital world. Recently, Program Officer Adelina Holloway sat down with Vision Australia Radio’s Stella Glory (‘Talking Vision’ podcast) to chat about the new program and how people can get involved. You can listen to the podcast here: (see embedded code below)

Vision Australia has just partnered with the Australian Government’s Be Connected program and the Good Things Foundation (a social change charity that empowers people through digital technology) to run an exciting new program for our senior clients with low vision. At the program launch, Minister for Social Services Christian Porter said: “I encourage older Australians who want to learn how to use digital technology confidently and safely, or who want to improve their current skills, to participate in the Be Connected program. Community organisations that join the Be Connected Network will deliver free personalised face-to-face training and support to help older Australians engage with and embrace digital technology.”

Vision Australia, a member of the Be Connected Network, has taken this one step further by designing a learning program which uses software specifically created for seniors with low vision in mind. Our learning course will be delivered by Vision Australia’s expert team of Digital Mentors, who will guide you through the course in a fun, supported and inclusive way, via a large easy to access display which talks to you at every step. Learn in a group or individually dependent on your needs and on a device that works for you!

Vision Australia is passionate about providing services which encourage blind and low-visioned people to become independent and confident, and live a full and inclusive life. We’re now looking for interested participants to join us in this exciting new program!
