What is DAB+ digital radio?
DAB+ digital radio provides clear, high-quality sound and is available in most Australian capital cities. DAB+ radios are widely available from major Australian retailers, with entry-level models typically starting from around $69.
If you're looking for a simple way to enjoy Vision Australia Radio at home, or in the car, a DAB+ radio is an excellent choice.
Setting Up Your DAB+ radio
Getting started is easy.
- Plug your DAB+ radio into a power outlet.
- Turn the radio on.
- Press and hold the 'Scan' or 'Search' button.
- Confirm that you would like the radio to search for available stations.
The scan usually takes around 20 to 30 seconds to complete.
Unlike traditional AM and FM radio, DAB+ stations are displayed by station name rather than frequency. For example, you may see stations such as ‘ABC Adelaide’, ‘SBS Perth’ or ‘VA Radio Melbourne’.
Once the scan has finished, your radio automatically stores all available stations, ready for you to listen at any time.
How to find Vision Australia Radio on your DAB+ radio
After scanning, stations are listed in alphabetical order.
Because Vision Australia Radio begins with V, it will generally appear towards the end of the station list.
An easy way to find it is to press the 'Back' or 'Left Arrow' button once or twice, which often jumps to the end of the station list.
You may also notice VA IRIS. Vision Australia currently broadcasts both VA IRIS and VA Radio, with both services carrying the same programming.
Save Vision Australia Radio as a Preset
Once VA Radio appears on the screen:
- Press and hold Preset 1 (or your preferred preset button).
- Wait until the radio confirms the station has been saved.
From then on, simply press Preset 1 whenever you switch on your radio to start listening to Vision Australia Radio immediately.
Before you buy a digital radio
If you're purchasing a radio specifically to listen to Vision Australia Radio, make sure the product clearly states that it is DAB+ compatible.
Some radios are marketed as being ‘digital’, referencing that they have a digital display, but they only receive traditional AM and FM broadcasts. A genuine digital radio will clearly state that it supports DAB+ Digital Radio.
